Edgemere School Project

KOCO: OKLAHOMA CITY —In August, 2014, Edgemere Elementary near Northwest 36th Street and Walker Avenue will become a community school.

It will be the first community school for Oklahoma City Public Schools and the latest way the district is trying to improve student education and engagement.

"It is just what you would expect when you hear the word 'community,'" said Principal Alisa Stieg.

"When you think about a community you think about the parents and the children and the small business owners and the large business owners, civic organizations and churches," said Stieg. "A community school takes all of those people and partners together to provide as much support possible for our students."

In addition to teaching Pre-K through sixth grade, the school will build on public and private partnerships.
